Protestors gather at Salem City Hall to protest over Avelo Airlines’ deportation flight deal

SALEM, Ore. — Avelo Airlines’ recent agreement to operate deportation flights for U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration Control and Enforcement agency has upset many.

The airline wrote in a statement that its flights will be both domestic and international to support the department’s deportation efforts. It said it will be supported by three 737-800s based at Mesa Gateway Airport.

The airline’s founder and CEO Andrew Levy said, “We realize this is a sensitive and complicated topic. After significant deliberations, we determined this charter flying will provide us with the stability to continue expanding our core scheduled passenger service and keep our more than 1,100 Crewmembers employed for years to come.”…
