Former police sergeant fired gun 5 times in confrontation with Oregon City police before death

A former Canby police sergeant fired five times at an Oregon City police officer early Friday before shooting and killing himself, Clackamas County prosecutors said.

The District Attorney’s Office confirmed the identity of the man as 58-year-old Scott Farmer in a Monday news release. The office wrote that Farmer shot at Oregon City Officer Sydney Oden. She returned fire, shooting at him three times and hitting him in the hip.

According to the office, Farmer called a police non-emergency line around 4:45 a.m. and said he was going to kill himself, then hung up. Oregon City officers and Clackamas County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at his home about 10 minutes later.
