The recent Turner Road wildfire near Salem, which resulted in one firefighter injury and the destruction of two structures, is now under control. According to updates on Thursday morning, previously issued Level 3 evacuation notices have been downgraded to Level 2 in the areas from Turner Road to Rising Iris Lane, and from Turner Road to Barcelona Drive, KOIN reports.
The fire began Wednesday afternoon near Gath and Barcelona roads, reportedly following a car that crashed into a power pole, leading to downed power lines, as the sheriff’s office told KATU. Initially, responders closed Turner Road at Gath Road and Gath Road at Witzel Road due to the emergency response, but firefighters successfully worked to contain the fire through the night.
The blaze, which moved rapidly through a field and reached a nearby building, is now mostly contained, with some flames and embers remaining within the fire perimeter. “The fire is currently controlled,” stated Carrara in a comment obtained by The Oregonian.
