Elderly Salem man goes missing from family’s campsite in Deschutes Co.

DESCHUTES COUNTY Ore. (KPTV) – An 84-year-old Salem man went missing from his family’s campsite in Deschutes County on Sunday morning, according ot the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.

At about 11 a.m., the family of Leon Lyle Haight left him alone at their campsite in the Paulina Lake Campground, and returned to find him and his car gone. Haight’s family noted that a camp axe was missing, and he had previously mentioned they were nearly out of firewood.

Haight does not have any known medical or mental health conditions, but “does have a history of wandering,” DCSO said.

Law enforcement and family members checked the area roads and access points, while officers with the Salem Police Department checked Haight’s home in Salem, in case he returned there…
