‘Showed no fear’: Cougar euthanized after killing livestock near Corvallis

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A cougar was euthanized Tuesday afternoon after it killed livestock just outside of Corvallis city limits and was deemed a threat to human safety, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office announced.

Deputies responded to the cougar sighting on NW Camellia Drive to locate and euthanize the animal around 3:30 p.m. It was handled in coordination with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Officials said the cougar had killed a goat in the area the night before and seemingly returned to continue eating before deputies arrived.

“The cougar was present in multiple backyards during the middle of the day and showed no fear of people on the property or the BCSO deputies when they arrived on site,” the office said…
