Sherwood Broadband pushes on to provide service throughout city, aid rural areas

Sherwood Broadband is moving forward with plans to blanket the entire city with ultrafast internet service, having already installed access to almost half of the city’s neighborhoods.

At the same time, the city-owned utility has completed or is moving forward with plans to serve unserved or underserved communities outside city limits.

“We’re bringing our service to every street in Sherwood,” said Brad Crawford, Sherwood’s information technology director.

A ‘quality of life’ issue

For almost two decades, the city has offered the high-speed fiber optic network, which when it began was considered an unique example of a city becoming an internet service provider. The Sherwood City Council has long deemed having broadband service a “quality of life” issue…
