Salem city council report says $3 million needed to bring back commercial airline service

SALEM, Ore. (KATU) — Just weeks after Avelo Airlines ended service at the Salem Airport, city leaders are weighing how much they’re willing to spend to bring another commercial carrier to town.

City Councilor Linda Nishioka said the loss is more than just a convenience for those traveling in and out of Salem.

“Not only does it provide economic opportunities for businesses, those that might be looking at coming to Salem, just the economic possibilities increase with commercial air service because the airport is more engaged, and it also encourages businesses that might need more incoming flights, whether it be commercial or private, to have that opportunity,” said Nishioka…
