PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — In the month following commercial air service’s end at the Salem – Willamette Valley Airport, city leaders are looking for funding sources to attract an airline.
On Monday, the Salem City Council approved a motion directing staff to recommend other ways to fund the minimum revenue guarantee needed to revive commercial service for local travelers.

Avelo Airlines stopped service at the Salem airport, and multiple other West Coast destinations, on Aug. 18. The announcement came after residents called on officials to part ways with the company that began chartering deportation flights for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security earlier this April.
Salem leaders previously noted that their terminated contract with the low-cost airline could drain the city of at least $1.2 million, including an $850,000 Federal Aviation Administration grant and the $350,000 that local businesses collected for the minimum revenue guarantee…
