‘Magic mushroom’ edibles packed with hidden substances but no psilocybin, OSU study finds

CORVALLIS, Ore. — A study led by Oregon State University found that “magic mushroom” edibles sold in smoke shops and convenience stores contained no psilocybin, but instead undisclosed substances such as caffeine, hemp, kava and synthetic psychedelics (syndelics). The findings raise public health concerns due to the unknown safety and toxicity of these unregulated compounds.
