A suspicious backpack discovered inside a public bathroom at Oregon’s Sunset Beach State Recreation Site on Tuesday morning prompted a large law enforcement response and investigation, according to Oregon State Police.
The incident began at 10:21 a.m. Tuesday, when Oregon State Parks alerted state police to the bag. Responding troopers located the backpack and called explosives experts to the scene. Bomb technicians from both the Oregon State Police and Salem Police Department arrived and rendered the device safe. Authorities confirmed there were no injuries.
For the remainder of the day, state police and park officials checked multiple locations for additional suspicious devices but found none.
