Newberg school district gets $170K to continue its wellness, readiness project

Grant will aid the district’s effort to increase student performance

The Newberg school district’s Wellness & Readiness project got an economic boost from a familiar county organization in mid-September.

The Yamhill Community Care Organization awarded $170,467 to support an effort by the district to focus on increasing attendance, literacy and math performance through social emotional learning implementation and preschool early intervention, a release said.

The award was among more than $600,000 meted to 15 local, community-based organizations fostering health initiatives and comes from one of three funds: Community Prevention and Wellness; Supporting Health for All through Reinvestment; investments supporting the organization’s Early Learning Hub, Traditional Health Workers and Community Health Improvement Plan…
