Woodburn city and state leaders, Amazon officials and local workers gathered Monday, Oct. 6, to mark the grand opening of Amazon’s new $500 million, 3.8 million-square-foot fulfillment center.
The facility, known as PDX8, officially began operating in June and is now the city’s largest employer, surpassing previous industry leader BrucePac. With around 3,000 employees already on site and more job openings posted each Friday, Amazon leaders say they will be hiring hundreds more in the upcoming months.
“This is one of the best days for Woodburn,” Woodburn Mayor Frank Lonergan said during Monday’s ceremony. “We’ve been thinking about this for many years, and it’s great to see it come to fruition today with such a great turnout. This is our future.”…
