Repairs underway on Gold Creek bridge

Construction work began last week to repair the crumbling concrete railing on the Gold Creek Bridge on Highway 153.

Crews with the Oregon-based Hamilton Construction Company began shoring up the bridge to safely remove the railing on the southbound side of the bridge, 3.5 miles south of Carlton. The railing will be replaced with a new barrier and a metal guardrail.

The concrete railing on the northbound side is old but still intact, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation. The problem doesn’t affect the bridge’s overall structural integrity…
