Expanded Childbirth Education Classes Now Available for Expectant Parents in Our Community

The Salem Health Community Health Education Center will start a new childbirth education series at West Valley Hospital in October 2025. This adds to the monthly birthing classes already offered at Salem Hospital. The goal is to give expectant parents in the Willamette Valley more options to prepare for labor, delivery, and postpartum care.

Certified childbirth educator Nancy Baldwin leads the classes. The sessions are for people giving birth and their support persons. The curriculum covers labor, delivery, late pregnancy health, and newborn care at home. Classes include lectures, slides, and hands-on practice with comfort measures like massage. Pain management options for both medicated and unmedicated births are discussed.

The series also covers cesarean births, both planned and emergency. Postpartum topics include swaddling, diapering, breastfeeding, and home safety. The aim is to provide practical information for new parents…
