Salem Man Arrested After Domestic Violence Investigation Uncovers Stolen Gun and Cocaine Operation

A Salem man was arrested after police recovered a stolen handgun and cocaine manufacturing evidence during a domestic violence investigation Monday night. Multiple felony charges filed.

Salem, OR. — A domestic violence investigation late Monday night led to the arrest of a Salem man on multiple felony charges, including weapons and drug trafficking offenses.

Around 9:30 p.m. on October 27, Salem Police officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a southeast Salem residence. The suspect, Jeffery Helmer, 40, allegedly menaced the victim earlier in the evening with both a knife and a firearm before fleeing.

Following interviews and evidence review, officers established probable cause for several felony charges. Helmer was located later that night at a bar on Lancaster Drive NE and taken into custody without incident…
