Corvallis schools propose consolidation to tackle enrollment drop and budget cuts

CORVALLIS, Ore. — In response to a steady decline in enrollment since 1970, the Corvallis School District has unveiled a revised school consolidation proposal aimed at optimizing resources and addressing budget constraints. Superintendent Ryan Noss has crafted a plan that will significantly reshape the district’s educational landscape.

Under the new proposal, elementary schools will transition to a kindergarten through sixth-grade model. Lincoln, Adams, Kathryn Jones Harrison, Garfield, and Bessie Coleman will each add a grade to accommodate this change. Mountain View Elementary will expand from a K-5 to a K-8 school, aligning with community interest in the K-8 model. Kathryn Jones Harrison will become a “sister school” to Garfield, serving students who cannot participate in Garfield’s dual language immersion program.

The middle school structure will also undergo changes. Linus Pauling Middle School will be renamed Corvallis Junior High and will serve seventh and eighth graders, allowing for the development of a new mascot and school culture.
