Woodburn mayor reaffirms city’s commitment to protecting community amid ICE arrests

Woodburn Mayor Frank Lonergan has released a statement pledging his commitment to protecting all residents’ safety and well-being following the arrests of 31 people by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in Woodburn last week.

The ICE arrests took place Thursday, Oct. 30, predominantly around Woodburn apartment complexes in the morning hours of 5 a.m. to 7:30 a.m., when many local farmworkers were heading to work, according to PCUN.

“The City of Woodburn is aware of recent federal immigration enforcement activity in our city,” Lonergan said. “As mayor, I have listened to everyone who reached out to me, and I share the concern and fear these operations have caused, especially for those who may feel vulnerable or uncertain about their safety and the safety of their families.”…
