Providence pulls the plug on workplace health

Providence is permanently closing its occupational medicine and workplace health services in the Portland area. Nov. 7 will be the final day of operations for Providence Occupational Medicine at medical centers in Tigard, Clackamas, Hillsboro, and Newberg.

The closures mean Providence is cutting 43 positions, including medical assistants, physician assistants, and non-clinical positions like front desk and billing staff.

The loss of four clinics will worsen an ongoing shortage of medical providers handling workers’ compensation claims…
