Salem’s McKay High School Lockdown Lifted After Suspect in Domestic Violence Shooting Captured

McKay High School in Salem was put under lockdown as police initiated a manhunt for a suspect involved in a domestic violence shooting, as KATU News reported. According to details shared by Salem-Keizer Public Schools, the lockdown, which started at around 10:10 a.m. on November 14, lasted until just after noon; meanwhile, Salem Police and Marion County Sheriff’s Office scoured the area in search of the assailant.

The lockdown at McKay High School was lifted following the successful apprehension of a 30-year-old man connected to a nearby shooting that left a 44-year-old woman with non-life-threatening injuries, the incident having unfolded in the 3600 block of Rockwood Park Court NE Aaron Harada, a spokesperson for the school district, confirmed the lockdown’s end, the school’s swift action reflecting the systemic protocols designed to ensure the safety of students and staff amidst unforeseen dangers. The pursuit of the suspect, identified by the Statesman Journal as Roger Rodriguez Molina, amounted to nearly seven hours, with him evading officers twice before his capture.

Multiple schools in Northeast Salem, including McKay High School, had initiated lockdown procedures during the search for the suspect.
