Council to Take Testimony on Renewal of Tourism Promotion Area

At its meeting on Monday, November 24, Salem City Council will hold two public hearings:

  • Salem Tourism Promotion Area.
  • To add short-term rentals to the Salem Tourism Promotion Area, a 2 percent fee on overnight stays to pays for marketing Salem as a destination for tourism
  • The funding is used to promote overnight tourism through advertising, branding, promotions, sponsorship of special events and other programs that increase overnight transient lodging stays
  • The hearing will be followed by a second reading of the ordinance enacting the change
  • Solid Waste Rates for 2026 and 2027.
