PNW atmospheric river arrives as region braces for potential flooding, power outages

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Get ready for soaking rains and gusty winds to start the week as an atmospheric river arrives in the Pacific Northwest, bringing at least 3 inches of rain for the Willamette Valley and upwards of 7 inches of rain on the coast by the time the weather event ends on Wednesday.

As this active weather enters our region now through the middle part of the week, residents should be ready for the possibility of minor flooding, scattered power outages and/or mudslides.

Thus, Monday morning we have our KOIN 6 Weather Alert in effect and that will last all the way through Wednesday due to the atmospheric river event. Along with the significant rain and gusty winds at times, we will still see above normal temps as we head into this new workweek with highs in the mid to upper 50s and overnight lows hovering right around 50 degrees.

Rainfall Forecast

From Monday morning to Thursday evening, we are looking at the potential of 3 to 8 inches of total rainfall along the coast and in the valley. For the Cascades, the rainfall could total more than 8 inches over this four-day span.

The National Weather Service has issued several weather alerts to also help folks be prepared for the active weather ahead.
