A Flood Watch is now in effect from 10 a.m. today through late Thursday night, with Marion and Polk counties among the areas most at risk as a prolonged atmospheric river brings heavy rain to the region.
Officials warn that excessive rainfall may cause river, creek, and urban flooding, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas across the central Willamette Valley. Landslides and debris flows are also possible on steep slopes, canyon areas, and locations below burn scars.
Forecast models show 2 to 4 inches of rain falling across Marion and Polk counties through Thursday morning, with even higher amounts expected in the Coast Range and Cascade foothills that feed local rivers.
