Oregon man drowns after driving into flooded roadway and getting swept away

SHERIDAN, Ore. — A man has drowned after driving around a road closed barrier and into high floodwaters on a roadway in rural Sheridan, Yamhill County Sheriff Sam Elliott confirmed.

Someone called to report the incident around 7:40 a.m. when, on a flooded stretch of SW Dejong Road north of SW Ballston Road near the Yamhill/Polk county line.

The caller reportedly saw someone drive around the barrier into the fast-moving water before being swept off the roadway into a large, flooded area. The driver was seen climbing out of the car and falling into the water, officials said…
