Seasonal rain, temps return to the PNW Friday

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Wet weather returns to western Oregon and southwest Washington as temperatures begin to cool Friday.

The latest round of rain comes with a low pressure traveling east Friday. This pock of wet and cooler air will bring Portland area temperatures back down to the average for late December. Temperatures along the Willamette Valley are expected to fall into the mid to upper 40s Friday and Saturday afternoon.

Rain accumulation is expected to near a quarter of an inch from Friday to Saturday afternoon. Saturday’s skies are expected to slowly dry throughout the day. This comes as heavy mountain snow brings the snow line close to 2,000′.

Winter weather is expected to be at its worst above 4,000′. Nearly a foot of snow is possible as alerts remain in effect over the Cascades. Visibility could be low at times as snow and winds of 45 mph are possible starting Friday morning and lasting through Saturday.

No snow is expected below 2,000′ with just rain expected along the Willamette Valley. Seasonal temperatures are expected to take Portland through the end of the year. This cooling trend takes shape as skies begin to clear as early as Sunday.
