Yamhill County Sheriff’s K9 Valk Celebrates 4th Birthday; Lauded for Dedication to Public Safety

Birthday celebrations are not only reserved for people, and the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office has taken to social media to mark an occasion for one of their own – a four-legged deputy. The office shared a post recognizing the 4th birthday, or 32nd in dog years, of K9 Valkyrie, affectionately known as “Valk.” The birthday announcement was met with cheer, as Valk is not just any canine, but a certified member of the force with a track record of successes.

Known for her dedication to duty, Valk was brought into the fold of the Yamhill County Sheriff in February 2023, and together with Deputy Waker swiftly earned her certification from the Oregon Police Canine Association (OPCA) within the same year. A German Shepherd originating from the Czech Republic, she specializes in tracking, trailing, wind scenting, building searches, and locating evidence, as well as suspects. With her keen senses, she has become an invaluable asset for the protection of law enforcement and civilians alike…
