DEQ fines railroad $81,600 for derailment and spill into Marys River

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has fined Portland & Western Railroad $81,600 for polluting the Marys River when its trestle bridge collapsed in January 2025, causing a train derailment.

The derailment, in Corvallis, caused about 199 tons of urea pellets to be released into the river over nine days.
