PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Salem man has been sentenced to life in prison after an argument turned violent.

“This incident shows how deadly irresponsible individuals with guns truly are,” said Marion County District Attorney Paige Clarkson. “Three people shot, and one killed over an incident that should have been dealt with by the police.”

The case stemmed from an Aug. 17, 2023 dispute involving two brothers, Edgar and Sergio Maya. Together, they drove by the residence of Raya-Lara to see if Edgar’s ex-girlfriend, Carina Raveen Gonzalez, was there. According to a press release from the Marion County District Attorney’s office, Gonzalez had been in a relationship with Raya-Lara at the time.
