Philomath’s Harrington earns 6th-place medal in 52-team wrestling tournament

Philomath High freshman Makinzey Harrington earned a sixth-place medal Saturday at the Lady Dragon Invitational in Dallas, a tournament that featured wrestlers from 52 schools.

Harrington, competing at 130 pounds, won her first two matches by pin by defeating Eagle Point’s Malia Mahavong and McNary’s Teagan McCarthy. After falling in the quarterfinals to Barlow’s Taylor Ward, Harrington bounced back with a pin of Centennial’s Madelyn Knox in the consolation bracket before losing the fifth-place match to Estacada’s Caroline Hardesty.

Three Warriors each posted 2-2 records at the tournament. Freshman Carsyn Pettit-Juvenal wrestled at 110 pounds with two wins by pin over West Albany’s Lola Gilder and Mountain View’s Mia Dane. Freshman Rielly Ellingsen also went 2-2 at 115 pounds, recording pins over Reynolds’ Liliana Ibarra and Hood River’s Madison Rae…
