Boil water advisory issued for South Salem area after pump station shutdown

SALEM, Ore. — Residents in a limited area of South Salem are advised to boil their water before using it following a power outage that caused a temporary loss of water pressure at a pump station on Saturday night, according to the city of Salem.

A Portland General Electric power outage in the S4 water pressure zone caused a safety device at the Davis Road Water Pump Station to shut down the pumps around 7 p.m. on Saturday, city officials said.

The city warns that potentially harmful bacteria could be present in the water supply. The bacteria could cause illness and is a particular concern for people with weakened immune systems…
