Woodburn educators and community members once again braved the January weather to honor those affected by recent immigration enforcement operations after a second person was killed in Minnesota.
Around 40 people gathered quietly with candles Tuesday evening, Jan. 27, outside the Woodburn School District office. During and after the demonstration, attendees also called on the Woodburn School District to enact stronger protections for students amid ongoing local immigration enforcement.
The vigil was held to honor Alex Pretti and others affected by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement actions. Woodburn residents held a separate vigil earlier in January for Renee Good, who was fatally shot by federal agents Jan. 7, less than two miles away from where Pretti was shot Jan. 24 in Minneapolis…
