Oregon WWII Navy vet celebrates 102nd birthday

Jack Martens wanted to be a pilot when he joined the Navy, but his eyesight wasn’t perfect, and he had a ruptured eardrum.

The eardrum ultimately disqualified him as a candidate due to his inability to equalize pressure during high-altitude flight, but Martens refused to let it keep him grounded.

He took private lessons during his spare time and became a civilian pilot…
