PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Two people were arrested in connection with a bank robbery in Depoe Bay earlier this week.
Portland resident Franco Armando Mereno Jr., 37, and Canby resident Jonathan F. Schwentner, 43, were both arrested at Nye Beach in Newport and accused of robbing $50,000 from Columbia Bank in Depoe Bay.
On Thursday morning, just before noon, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to the reported bank robbery after masked assailants held up the bank’s staff at gunpoint and demanded money from the vault. The bank said the two robbers got away with the cash before fleeing in a red sedan without license plates, making their way down Highway 101.

“The red suspect vehicle was abandoned at a vacant lot near NE Stanley and E. Collins Street in Depoe Bay. The vehicle was set on fire.
