Corvallis study warns of climate tipping points threatening stability

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State University scientists are raising alarms about the planet’s trajectory towards a “hothouse” Earth.

According to OSU officials, feedback loops could amplify global warming consequences, pushing Earth closer to destabilization. The study, published in the journal One Earth, highlights critical climate tipping points like the melting ice sheets in Antarctica and Greenland, and the Amazon rainforest’s potential shift from rainforest to savanna. These changes could lead to extreme warming and sea level rise, difficult to reverse even with significant emissions cuts.
