SOU takes lead on Day 1 of CCC Championships

SALEM — By building a 16 ½-point cushion through Day 1 of the Cascade Conference Men’s Wrestling Championships, No. 6-ranked Southern Oregon positioned itself on Friday to win another title at the Salem Armory Auditorium.

The Raiders sent eight of their 12 individuals to the semifinals and kept three more alive in the consolation brackets, accumulating 73 points compared to second-place Providence (Mont.)’s 56 ½. Overall, their wrestlers combined for 19 wins and just five losses.

They’ll attempt to complete their championship defense when wrestling starts up again at 10 a.m. Saturday. Providence remains in the hunt with six semifinalists and five in the consolation rounds, while third-place Arizona Christian (53 ½ points) is still in shouting distance with 10 wrestlers still going, including four in the semis…
