Scott Barnes reveals what Oregon State’s ‘major fundraising announcement’ was about

The “major fundraising announcement” Oregon State athletic director Scott Barnes referenced in a letter to fans last month was regarding a long planned facilities project.

OSU has been planning its Field Sports Building — which will be the new home for the Beavers men’s and women’s soccer, track and field, cross country and softball teams — for several years. Donations for the $25 million project have been secured and construction of the 15,000-square-foot facility, which will be located adjacent to Kelly Field, Whyte Track & Field Center and Lorenz Field, will begin in July.

“We hit that ($25 million) number a couple of months ago,” Barnes told The Oregonian/OregonLive on Friday. “We’ve made that announcement and we’re going to start digging dirt here pretty quickly. It was the last project on an over $300 facilities master plan, the last project that sort of met our goal for some Title IX improvements.”…
