SALEM, Ore. — When filmmakers began work on the Academy Award-winning movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, they skipped the Hollywood backlot and chose a real psychiatric hospital instead.
For three months in 1975, actors including Jack Nicholson, Christopher Lloyd, and Danny DeVito filmed scenes inside the psychiatric ward at Oregon State Hospital in Salem.
