Newberg City Council approves increasing utility rates

The Newberg City Council has approved increases in the rates homeowners and businesses will pay for city utilities over the next two years.

After a unanimous vote March 16, the average ratepayer can expect to pay an additional $5.12 per month on utilities beginning in 2027 — up 2.8% from last year’s rates, according to the city. Between additional rate increases to water, sewer, stormwater and transportation utility fees, residents will pay another $3.14 per month on top of that come 2028.

The council followed the recommendation of the Citizens Rate Review Committee in raising water rates 5%, wastewater rates 4.1%, 4.5% for storm water rates and 4% for transportation utility fees each year in 2027 and 2028…
