Woodburn-based farmworker union PCUN condemns Cesar Chavez amid abuse allegations

PCUN, the Woodburn-based farmworkers union, issued a statement condemning farm labor activist Cesar Chavez after multiple sexual abuse allegations against him surfaced last week.

On March 18, the New York Times released an investigation that revealed multiple women’s claims that Chavez sexually abused them as both minors and adults during the peak of his powers as the leader and founder of the United Farm Workers.

“These are profoundly shocking findings. We understand for many this is extremely difficult news to process,” PCUN Executive Director Reyna Lopez said in the statement. “PCUN was founded with the values of equity, dignity, and respect. No leader is above accountability. We stand with the survivors of Chavez’s harmful actions, and with those reckoning with the gravity of these confirmed allegations.”…
