Oregon woman accused of spoofing email address to steal $436,300 payment to dead man’s wife

DALLAS, Oregon — An Oregon woman is accused of spoofing an email address to take a $436,300 probate payment intended for the wife of a Kentucky man who died in 2023.

Court records filed Wednesday allege that Tina Martin of Dallas, Oregon — with the assistance of other unidentified individuals — posed as the Kentucky woman by using a spoof of her email address containing an extra letter, convincing a law firm to wire the full amount to a bank account unrelated to the estate and probate case.

An FBI agent wrote that it’s likely Martin used a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to try and hide the email account owner’s identity, according to the court documents…
