Man dies after WRX strikes tree, catches fire on Highway 214

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A man died and a passenger was hospitalized after an early morning crash in Marion County — leading the car the catch fire, authorities announced.

Just before 2:00 a.m. Wednesday, Oregon State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 214 near milepost 22.

A preliminary investigation found that a Subaru WRX, driven by 18-year-old Adrian Ramos Monroy of Salem, was traveling southbound on the highway before leaving the roadway for an unknown reason then struck a tree, authorities said.
