- Cool showers linger through tomorrow
- Mountain snow returns this weekend
- Warmer sunshine builds next week
WET AND CHILLY WEATHER RETURNS
There will be a noticeable change in the weather today, especially along the coast and north of Salem. Showers will move back near the coast this morning, then spread inland through the afternoon. Roads will turn damp again, with intermittent rain during the evening commute.
It will also feel cooler than it has recently. Afternoon temperatures will stay below what we typically see in mid-May, in the low 60s, and there will be a brisk breeze at times with wind gusts up to 25 mph this afternoon.
SHOWERS STICK AROUND THROUGH TOMORROW
There will be scattered showers continuing tonight and through tomorrow. Most valley locations will not see heavy rainfall, but there will be periods of light rain and passing showers that could interrupt outdoor plans.
The cooler air moving in will drop snow levels low enough for snow to return to the Cascade passes. Travelers heading into the mountains tonight through tomorrow night should be prepared for winter-like driving conditions at times, especially around Government Camp and the higher passes.
Several inches of snow could pile up in the Cascades, and roads could become slick quickly during heavier bursts of snow. It will be important to check road conditions before traveling and pack extra cold-weather supplies if heading into the mountains. Many lower-elevation forest roads have already melted out this spring, so people recreating outdoors may not expect snowy conditions nearby.
WARMER, DRIER WEATHER AHEAD
After the cool and unsettled weather wraps up, there will be a much more comfortable stretch arriving early next week. Skies will gradually dry out, and temperatures will start climbing again…
