SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — The historic doors of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Salt Lake Temple have been reinstalled, marking a significant milestone in the restoration of the iconic landmark.
The Salt Lake Temple closed in December 2019 and has been undergoing renovations to replace historic plumbing and electrical systems as well as complete a seismic upgrade to protect it from large earthquakes. During the renovation, the doors were removed.
According to the Church Newsroom, the doors of the temple feature distinctive circular designs with interlocking letters believed to represent “House of the Lord” and have been the backdrop of thousands of family photos taken during weddings, reunions, missionary milestones, vacations and more.
