Riverton police investigate fake shooting, bomb threat at local Costco

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Police responded to reports of a shooting and a bomb threat at two locations in Riverton early on Wednesday, including a local Costco. Both calls were determined to be fraudulent, but led to a significant police presence.

According to Nate Slack, with Riverton City, the local police department received reports of a shooting around 1840 W and 12015 S in Riverton around 1:43 p.m. The caller stated that he had shot a family member and reported that they were no longer breathing.

Due to the serious nature of the call, a large number of police units responded to the scene. Additionally, a reverse 911 call was issued for the surrounding area.

However, when police investigated further, they determined that there were no injuries and no evidence of a shooting. They did briefly detain some individuals for questioning but did not make any arrests…
