‘Left to suffer in terror’: Passengers sue Delta Airlines for turbulent SLC flight that sent dozens to the hospital, claim negligence

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Passengers of an extremely turbulent flight from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam that caused multiple injuries are now suing Delta Air Lines, claiming that the company was negligent and left passengers to “suffer in terror” for hours.

On July 30, 2025, Delta Flight DL56 was enroute from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam when it encountered significant turbulence and had to be diverted to Minneapolis-Saint Paul (MSP) International Airport.

When the flight safely landed, multiple passengers were evaluated and taken to the hospital. While Delta Airlines reported that 25 people were transported, the preliminary NTSB report stated only 18 were transported and, of those individuals, two had serious injuries and five had minor injuries.
