Hiker dead after lightning strike at American Fork Twin Peaks

Update, 5:06 p.m.

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — The individual struck by lightning on Saturday has been declared deceased, according to the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

At about 12:20 p.m. on July 18, search and rescue crews responded to reports of an individual who was struck by lightning near the summit of the east peak of American Fork Twin Peaks. A DPS helicopter also responded and quickly located the victim.

The individual has been identified as a 59-year-old male.
