Kelly Cockrell said when her son was killed in a car crash at the age of 24, “I just spiraled.”
Cockrell, 49, said she started using drugs, lived on the streets of Salt Lake City for about five months, and attempted to take her own life before she was hospitalized. But she eventually got help from Odyssey House, a nonprofit that provides services for substance use issues, mental health and medical care for people in need.
While in Odyssey House’s program, Cockrell and her best friend, Kearra Clark, 38, have been living in a sober living and mental health transitional home in Sugar House. But this week, both Cockrell and Clark will be moving into a new home that will give them and 27 other women long-term housing stability and support as they continue to heal…
