The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that Utah has had upwards of 49 cases of cyclosporiasis since May 1, 2026. There have been 13,895 confirmed cases in the U.S. with an additional minimum of 10,455 cases that haven’t been confirmed with lab testing.
Cyclospora is the microscopic parasite that causes the digestive illness, cyclosporiasis. Contaminated food and water with human feces is how cyclospora spreads, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
