Craft Lake City’s 18th annual DIY Fest at the Utah State Fairpark

Craft Lake City’s 18th annual DIY Festival ran from Aug. 7 through 9 at the Utah State Fairpark.

The festival brought more than 1,000 creatives together, including vintage vendors, local artisans, STEM exhibitors, crafters and live performers. The festival featured live performances throughout the weekend, along with opportunities for attendees to participate in DIY stations and explore work from local creators.

Angela H. Brown is the third owner-publisher of Salt Lake UnderGround — commonly known as SLUG Magazine — and has run it for 25 years. Brown, who started working at SLUG 27 years ago, started the magazine’s website, their podcast Soundwaves and began hosting local events. “I guess you could say I made it my own,” Brown told The Chronicle.

2009 saw the first-ever Craft Lake City as part of SLUG’s event initiative, “but it really needed to become its own organization,” Brown said. Craft Lake City hosts multiple events during the year, including the Holiday Market in December and the Maker’s Mart near the end of the year. The DIY Fest is Craft Lake City’s capstone event…
