Family hopes to create scholarship fund in memory of Sandy teen climber who died in fall from Devil’s Castle

SANDY, Utah, Aug. 23, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — The family of 16-year-old Zachary Jacob Crandall is raising funds in hopes of creating a scholarship to honor the adventurous spirit of the teen, who died Wednesday in a fall from Devil’s Castle, a Wasatch Mountain rock formation he was climbing with friends when he fell.

Zach was enthusiastic about the activities and the people he loved,” says a tribute account.
