As Sepsis Awareness Month approaches, Intermountain Health is encouraging people to learn the warning signs of sepsis and seek medical care quickly when an infection becomes serious. Early recognition and treatment can make the difference between life and death.
Sepsis is the body’s overwhelming response to an infection. Without prompt treatment, it can lead to widespread tissue damage, organ failure, and in some cases, death.
“Sepsis is a medical emergency,” said Dr. Roni Lane, Primary Children’s Hospitals Emergency Department sepsis director and co-director of the Intermountain Children’s Health Pediatric Sepsis Program. “The sooner it is recognized and treated, the better the chance of recovery and survival.
